Why Freek Does This Work

It started with a toll barrier that wouldn't open.

Summer 2024. Freek was driving through Italy with his family, caravan in tow, using the Telepass toll system he'd used many times before. But this time, something was wrong. The barrier didn't lift.

He tried another lane. Same problem. And another. Behind him, a line of Italian drivers grew longer and increasingly impatient. Horns started. Gestures followed. With a caravan attached, reversing and switching lanes wasn't exactly graceful.

"I work with toll products every day. And even I had a moment where I was stuck at a barrier with no idea what was wrong. Imagine how stressful that is for someone crossing a foreign toll system for the first time."

That's why Freek focuses so intensely on customer support. When someone contacts us confused or stressed, he gets it. He's been the person blocking traffic at an Italian toll booth. He never wants a customer to feel that helpless.

The beginning: 2014

Freek co-founded the company alongside Mattijs Wijnmalen in 2014. While Mattijs built the products and platforms, Freek built the operations — the systems that actually deliver tickets and support customers. Ten years later, that same principle of "make sure everything works, and when it doesn't, fix it fast" drives everything the company does.
